Oh, lets continue the detox theme. Why, not… it is important. I follow the protocol for liver detox as noted in “The Liver and Gallbladder Miracle Cleanse” by Andreas Moritz.

Why do a liver cleanse… The liver has major control over the functioning of each and every cell. If there are problems with cell growth that points to problems with the liver. Gallstones occur in the liver as well as the gallbladder. The liver is responsible to supply hormones, enzymes and nutrients to each cell in the body. If it is clodded with gallstones, it doesn’t function well.

Conventional medicine doesn’t necessarily agree that there are stones in the liver. It is generally believed that gallstones are only in the gallbladder. This is not true according to Mr Moritz.

Here are some of the symptoms people experience who have gallstones. A partical list includes: food cravings, digestive disorders, diarrhea, constipation, flatulence, dull pain on the right upper quadrant of the stomach, cirrhosis, high cholesterol, pancreatitis, heart disease, brain disorders, duodenal ulcers, an angry personality, depression, sexual problems, hormonal imbalances, menstrual and menopausal disorders,, skin issues, tongue the is coated in white or yellow, asthma, headaches, obesity, chronic fatigue, osteoporosis, insomnia, nightmares, stiffness in joints and muscles, hot and cold flashes and jaundice (yellowing skin and eyes).

Gallstones are a product of an unhealthy diet and lifestyle. Gallstones are a health risk leading to illness (see list above) and premature aging.

The book does an in depth look at the purpose of the liver and how the health of the liver effects every part of the body. I am convinced.

I have done the Liver and Gallbladder flush 6 times since last January 2009. I have returned thousands of gall stones over the 6 cleanses. Last night returns several hundred green stones of varying sizes. It isn’t that difficult to do. What follows is not the whole story so please read the book if you pursue this very important health practice.

Basically, I start 6 days before the cleanse. I drink 32 ounces of apple cider every day. I also cut back and then eliminate animal protein. That means no meat (not too much of a problem for me), no cheese, no cream for the coffee. I eat no fats for 24 hrs before the actual cleanse. I do step up my colon cleanse during the week before the cleanse. This make the evening of the cleanse easier.

The day of the actual cleanse I drink all my cider in the morning. I stop eating about 1:30 pm. I drink an Epsom salt drink at 6 pm and 8 pm. At 10 pm I drink an olive oil and fresh squeezed citrus and lay down on my right side. I have also been doing a Castor oil pack on my liver during this time. At 6 am and 8 am I am drinking more of the Epsom salt drink and I am expelling the gallstones at that time. This morning I broke the fast with fresh squeezed grapefruit. At 11 am I ate the other half of the grapefruit. This evening I made a simple and nutritious detox dinner. More on that later.

You, dear reader, might want to know what is hard about doing this. Well,  I will tell you what is hard for me. The diet isn’t too bad except for the coffee issue. I really really like my coffee. And I like cream and agave nectar with my coffee. That is off limits for cleansing. About a year and a half ago, I decafinated ed myself because I wanted to do a series of cleanses and knew that getting off caffeine each time would be very difficult and I would be tempted not to do the cleanse. Even going decaf, I still fine myself hunting coffee on the first day of the cleanse. The rest of the week was easy.

I was very afraid to do this cleanse. What happens if a gallstone gets stuck. It is very painful to say the least. I was having discomfort in my right upper quadrant, frequently. I was having that niggling voice urging me to do something.  I researched this for some time before I tried it. And I have a friend who has done many of these cleanses as a support person. I will tell you that the citrus (orange and lemon juice in my case) and olive oil drink isn’t all that appetizing. I drink it with a very big straw that you can get at McDonald’s. After you drink the mixture and lay down, the gallbladder with expel the gallstones and bile in about 20 minutes. I have never had any pain. Twice I had a sensation, like a bowel sound. I have never had any pain or discomfort with this part. The night has been uncomfortable. I don’t sleep well during the night of the cleanse. I try to sleep with my head and body elevated and a pillow or two.

As far as I am concerned, it is all worth it. I will tell you that the days following the cleanse I am very clear in my thinking and I have a lot of energy.  Last night, I worked on my Vision Board project for work. Today I stopped by work, went shopping, took down the Christmas Tree and all the decorations, and cleaned the first floor, in addition to make that superb detox dinner. I feel great! I am looking forward to having a clean liver!

This cleanse is not for everyone. If you want to take charge of your health, seriously consider doing the Liver and Gallbladder cleanse.

Blessings, Mary Pat
