So far, we have discussed the reason we all need to detoxify the body. These reason include, but are not limited to:
- eating food that is filled with pesticides, antibiotics
- breathing polluted air
- poor eating habits that contribute to a myriad of health problems (to much of the wrong salt, white flour, sugar, eating too much etc)
- being constipated
- drinking water with chemicals such as chlorine, fluoride, lead etc and so forth
- dehydration: not drinking enough water
We have discussed cleansing the alimentary track. Cleaning the mouth and teeth with “Oil Pulling”, colon cleanses and colonics. I would like to mention here that “fasting” would fall into this group. That is another blog post coming up.
We also discussed Liver and Gallbladder cleansing. Gallstones can be in the liver as well as the gallbladder.
Today let’s discuss Kidney cleanse. The kidneys filter the blood. It takes wastes from the blood and this waste leaves the body as urine. There are a variety of caused of kidney stones. Kidney stones form when minerals and acids are out of balance. This can happen when the urine contains too much calcium or uric acid and there is not enough fluid to dilute it out. There may be a problem in the way the body absorbs and eliminates calcium. Urine that is highly acidic or alkaline is more likely to be prone to forming kidney stones. Other causes include kidney disease, gout, metabolic disease. Some drugs that contribute to the formation of kidney stones include: Lasix (water pill for high blood pressure and heart disease), Topamax (anti-seizure), Indinavir(HIV). The most common stones are calcium with uric acid being second.
If the liver is congested it effect the kidney. If you are having gallbladder/liver issues, you probably have kidney issues brewing. Even if you don’t have “stones” per se, you may have kidney grease, crystals, and silent stone. Why wait until you get stones?
If you want to know if you are at risk for kidney stones, pull the skin under your eyes sideways toward the temples. If you have any bumps, red or white pimples or discoloration of the skin you probably have kidney congestion issues.
The Kidney Cleanse is outlined in Andrease Moritz’s book The Liver and Gallbladder Miracle Cleanse. He has the whole body figured out. This cleanse takes 21 day. You make an infusion (strong tea) from the following herbs: marjoram, cat’s claw, comfrey root, fennel seed, chicory herb, uva ursi, hydrangea root, gravel root, marshmallow root, golden rod herb. I couldn’t get all the herbs at any of my local health food stores. I found and herb store in Philadelphia on line. They sent me the correct amount for each herb in the recipe. You will need to drink 6-8 small portions during the day. Don’t put any sugar in the tea. It is a little bitter, but you get used to it.
During the cleanse you will need to eat pure whole foods. And you will be eliminating meat, dairy, fish, eggs, tea, coffee, alcohol, carbonated beverages, chocolate and any food with preservative, artificial sweeteners, coloring agents. These items effect the function of the kidney.
If you have kidney issues, he suggests doing this every 6 weeks or so. If you are doing the liver cleanse and you have no known kidney issues, he suggests that you do this between every 3-5 liver flushes. I did one kidney flush last year between the 4th and 5th liver cleanse. It was a little challenge do to the diet restrictions. You might not be willing to do this. Your choice. In my mind any diseaseis worse than any cleanseyou can do. If I can prevent a disease, or reverse a disease by doing various cleanses, it is worth the sacrifice. I will tell you that I was looking for an easy way to do this cleanse. A nutritionist friend kindly suggested that thinking I could drink some tea, not change my diet and expect that I would get good results was pretty faulty thinking. I did the cleanse the way it was written. Get his book.

I have always been thninikg seriously about a cleanse but every morning I wake up and my mind is changed to just going about my day as usual without cutting out the coffee or the convenience of eating out during lunch times. So my concern is not following through with it and also making sure that I plan it by buying the right food to have available when I get hungry or crave certain types of snacks. So preparation is key I feel.
Yes, You have to make a decision to do a detox. Then you set it up and go through it. Some times it is a decision every day of the detox. One thing that keeps you going is know that if you stop, it doesn’t count. You did all that work for nothing. You can choose not do do any detoxing. Then you are gambling that things will stay the same. If you get very sick, you will most likely be hooked into health care system with drugs, surgery and other treatments. It will be very difficult to start cleaning and going an alternative path to healing.
